Water is a symbol of Nihonbashi, as the area prospered because of the canals
which served as the transportation network for the area.
There are a variety of modern works made with traditional materials such as lacquer
that have water as a theme that decorate everywhere from the entrance on the 1st floor to the guest rooms.

The motif of this piece is a lotus (which is a symbol of purity in the east), and represents the forever changing flowers and leaves. The piece has been made by melting together tin. As a result the transparent petals overlap to create a beautiful piece that can only be made with tin. The shadow of this piece can also be enjoyed.

Long wine glass "Kometsunagi" Crimson，Lapis lazuri
Edo Kiriko (Cut Glassware) [Ryuichi Kumakura]
These wine glasses use the crimson and lapis lazuli which are commonly used in Edo kiriko glassware. The kiriko pattern is “Kome Tsunagi”, an original pattern by Hanasho Ryuichi Kumakura who has received praise from both in Japan and from abroad. The glassware was used as gifts at the 2008 G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit.
