Situated on the edge of the Shinjuku and Minato Wards of Tokyo, Meiji Jingu Gaien is a spacious park with many different facilities that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Among the offerings are the Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery (founded in 1926), sporting facilities like Meiji Jingu Stadium, an ice rink, playgrounds for children like the Nikoniko (smiley) park, cafes, restaurants, and more. There is a famous 300-meter stretch of path lined with ginkgo trees that are over 100 years old. The brilliant scenery of walking under the 140 individual trees in full autumn colors is sure to take your breath away.

The National Stadium was the main stage of the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. Today, it has been reborn with an increased capacity of approx. 60,000 seats as the main venue for the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games! Architects representing Japan, lead by Kengo Kuma, designed the new stadium and themed it “a stadium of forests”. Lumber from all 47 Prefectures was used for the eaves. The roof is a hybrid structure of wooden and steel frames.

A mansion of the lord of the Shinshu Takato-han family stood in modern-day Shinjuku during the Edo Period. The control of the grounds changed hands and eventually, Shinjuku Gyoen was constructed as an Imperial Garden in 1906. After World War II, the area was redesignated as a national park. Despite its urban location, the park is full of abundant nature with a spacious lawn as well as three separate garden spaces: the Japanese garden, the formal French garden, and the English landscape garden. Particularly famous are the spring cherry blossoms and the colorful autumn leaves. They attract a lot of visitors, especially on the weekends.

Meiji Shrine, also called Meiji Jingu, is dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Consort Shoken. The grounds include an inner and outer garden. The inner garden is located within a sacred shrine forest, which was created artificially using trees donated from all over Japan. Although it's a man-made forest, it's been growing well. The Meiji Jingu Museum has opened to celebrate the upcoming centenary anniversary of Meiji Shrine in 2020 (Reiwa 2) and is attracting attention.

Meiji Kinenkan, also known as the Constitution Memorial Hall, was opened in 1947 as a general purpose wedding hall for Meiji Shrine. It’s encompassed by rich greenery amidst the bustling city due to its location in the sprawling evergreen forest of the Shrine’s outer gardens. Hatonomori Hachiman Shrine has long been a place of prayer for the local area. It enshrines Emperor Ojin and Empress Consort Jingu. The shrine has a roughly 6 meter high artificial miniature of Mount Fuji, called Tsujiyama Fuji, on the grounds, which was designated as a Tangible Folk Cultural Property of Tokyo. This mound is shaped like Mount Fuji and is said to have the same benefits as climbing the real one. It’s also famous as the oldest existing mound in Tokyo. Additionally, it’s known for its Shogi-do Hall, which enshrines a guardian deity for people who aim to improve their shogi skills. Popular and professional shogi players have been known to visit!

Tokyo Midtown is a commercial complex including roughly 130 stores of fashion, food, interior design, and more. It is an urban oasis comprised of a large green space and six buildings. About 40% of it is natural greenery. The complex also houses the “Suntory Museum of Art”, a club & restaurant called “Billboard Live TOKYO”, a gallery called “21_21 DESIGN SIGHT”, and more. The offerings attract culture-focused clientele.

Themed as the “cultural city center”, Roppongi Hills is a mega-complex comprised of a total of about 200 stores. The varied offerings include shops, restaurants, a museum, a movie theater, a TV studio, and more. Additionally, it houses the Roppongi Hills Arena where diverse events are held. It’s always bustling with people. Furthermore, there’s a rooftop observatory called Tokyo City View with an outdoor viewing platform, the Sky Deck, that offers panoramic views 270 meters above sea level. It’s a definite must-see!

Located in Akasaka Sacas, AkasakaBiz SHOPS&DINING is a commercial complex made up of around 40 stores, from long-established restaurants to daily-use restaurants, pharmacies, and cosmetics stores.
