Most of the year (apart from when the region is covered in snow) you can enjoy seeing sheep dotted about this idyllic pastoral area. At the observatory there is also a bronze statue of Dr. William Smith Clarke, a leader in agricultural education, engraved with one of his most famous sayings: boys be ambitious. This is a popular spot for photographs.

Japanese-American sculptor Isamu Noguchi designed this park based on the concept of “the whole [park] being a single sculpture.” This expansive lush green space has plenty of playground equipment as well as nature and art, making it a fun place for all.

Constructed in 1888, this red brick building was made in the American neo-baroque style and served as the Hokkaido government office for over 80 years. Now it’s a popular tourist destination with a shop, tourist information office and more.

This gourmet theme park is run by the renowned beverage brand Sapporo Beer. Visitors can take a tour of the Sapporo Beer Museum and enjoy Genghis Khan-style mutton barbeque…and, of course, drink Sapporo Five Star beer and other alcoholic beverages that are only available here.

This is the largest stadium in Hokkaido and the northernmost all-weather dome in Japan, regularly hosting soccer and baseball games. The facility also includes an observation deck, a training room and a kids’ park.

This zoo opened in 1950 and was the 10th zoo ever to be established in Japan. About 990 animals of 180 different varieties can be seen here. Bordering the virgin forest of Maruyama Park, the zoo is set in a natural environment consisting of two hectares of forest land.

Mount Moiwa is 531 meters high and is located in central Sapporo. Its name in the native Ainu language, “inkarushibe,” means “always watching from above,” and visitors can do just that from its summit. Take the ropeway or walk up the sightseeing road, switching midway to the so-called Morris car – the world’s first drive-type mini cable car – that will take you the last stretch to the summit.

This clock tower is arguably one of the most famous landmarks in Sapporo. It was built as a training gym for Sapporo Agricultural College students in 1878. The style is modeled after popular architectural structures that were popping up in the mid-west of the United States at the time.

This park that stretches 1.5 kilometers from east to west splits the city into two sections, to the north and south. It is home to around 4,500 trees of 92 varieties, as well as beautiful flower beds, water features, sculptures and much more. The park is famous for its lilac festival in spring, its Yosakoi dance festival in summer, and its snow festival in winter.
